WHAT DOES THE ENVIRONMENT SERVICE OFFER?

 

The Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) offers a wide variety of services to Ontario First Nations and tribal councils. The OFNTSC’s Environment Service works with communities and tribal councils to provide:

 

  • Environment assessment processes – review and analysis
  • Solid Waste Management training
  • Water quality and Source Water Protection training
  • Minor capital submissions for environmental projects
  • Community land use and planning
  • Environment legislation and regulation interpretation; with best practices and conservation techniques
  • Contaminated site assessment and remediation – review/analysis

 

Services offered by the OFNTSC are free of charge to First Nations and tribal councils in Ontario. Please note that there are costs associated to attend training sessions, conferences and symposiums. Contact us today, to see how we can assist you.

  • Training provided by environmental scientists with over 40 years of experience working with First Nations communities
  • Empowers First Nations to protect sources of water for communal needs
  • Reduction of solid waste going to community or municipal landfills
  • Additional protection of lands through policy development
  • Identification of community environmental hazards
  • Better usage and planning of community lands; while incorporating traditional land use knowledge
  • Enhanced community knowledge of lands, lakes and watersheds
  • Strengthening of proposals or grant applications as it relates to environmental projects

 

WORKPLAN PRIORITIES FOR 2018 – 2019

 

The OFNTSC’s Environment Service will be working on these priorities for the next fiscal year:

 

  • Focus on landfill requirements for First Nations (workshops)
  • Solid Waste Management training
  • Solid Waste Diversion training
  • Environmental Assessment Service (related to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act of 2012)
  • Source Water Protection and Water quality (workshops, terms of reference development)
